As the Games of the Small States of Europe have drawn to a close, it is clear that Luxembourg’s basketball teams have done very well: both the men’s and the women’s team bring home a shiny medal.
Under the guidance of coach Ken Diederich, the men’s team got very close to winning the final: they scored many points at the initial stage of the game, but lost against Montenegro by a very narrow margin: 91:93. In any case, the performance won them a silver medal.
To date, the Luxembourgish basketball team has never won gold at the Games of the Small States of Europe - both the team and their coach were proud to come so close this year.
Luxembourg’s national women’s team were also out to win a medal and succeeded by winning bronze, as they beat Malta 76:58.
Two years ago, they had already also won bronze. Back then, they were a bit disappointed by that result. This time, however, they showed themselves pleased at the good result as coach Mariusz Dziurdzia had struggled to find enough players to compose the team.
