Nearly 300 drivers were stopped to undergo breathalyser tests. 15 tested positive, with six drivers losing their licences.
One driver had not only consumed alcohol, but also was under the influence of drugs, and did not possess a valid driver's licence.
12 other motorists were caught violating the Highway Code. Two received fines for not having insurance, and one passenger was found in possession of drugs.
At 1pm on Friday, police were called to a café on Rue de l’Hôtel de Ville in Pétange, where a man was verbally abusing the staff. A patrol found the man was significantly intoxicated and, upon discovering he had driven to the location, issued a provisional driving ban and confiscated his vehicle. The man became aggressive and was subsequently taken into custody to sleep off his intoxication.
A traffic check on the A4 motorway near Pontpierre resulted in police stopping a driver travelling 114 km/h, in a 70km/h zone. The driver was pulled over and fined, as well has having his licence confiscated.
Another driver was caught speeding on the A3 motorway at 6.45pm, going 128 km/h in a 70km zone. She was pulled over at Berchem services, where police confiscated her licence and issued a fine.
At 2pm on Friday, intruders broke into a parked car on Rue Astrid in Belair, stealing sunglasses and cash.
Another break-in was reported in Howald at 5pm, where thieves broke into a car via the passenger side and stole two pairs of glasses.
