Minister for Education Claude Meisch responded to a parliamentary question submitted by CSV MP Martine Hansen on the topic.

Hansen's question focused on the number of vouchers that had been used since the government introduced its subsidisation of school books for secondary school pupils. Hansen also raised a number of questions concerning issues that came with the first-time use of vouchers.

In his answer, Meisch confirmed that by 14 January, 29,917 vouchers had been used to purchase school books. The value of these vouchers is calculated to be around €2.1 million.

On average, one voucher permitting a student to purchase mandatory books is worth €72.65.

Meisch stressed that the voucher was only applicable to mandatory books as outlined by teachers. He also specified that the vouchers do not apply to work clothes for students in professional training and that the government has no plans to include these work clothes in the remit of the vouchers.
