Several events concerned with prevention of the chronic disease took place over the weekend and are set to continue on Monday 14 November, also known as World Diabetes Day.

More than 30,000 people in Luxembourg suffer from diabetes. Around the globe, that number is a staggering 460 million.

90% of patients have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, a metabolic disease often caused by weight, lack of exercise, and poor nutrition.

Only 8-10% of diabetics suffer from Type 1 diabetes, which is an autoimmune disease leading to pancreas failure, and requiring regular insulin jabs.

Aside from insulin, many diabetics also rely on other medication and devices to measure blood-sugar levels. Furthermore, a special diet and regular exercise might be needed to keep the disease in check.
