A witness had called the police and reported a serious altercation between a man and a woman in a car park in Wallerfangen near Saarlouis. The man, who lives in Mettlach, was arrested and placed in pretrial detention. He is accused of attempted murder.
The incident took place in the car park of the local hospital in Wallerfangen at around 5.50 am on early Wednesday morning. The woman, also from Luxembourg, was about to leave in her car, when a 53-year-old Luxembourger, her ex-husband, attacked her with a knife and left her critically wounded. The police later seized a knife.
The suspect's potential motive remains unknown so far. The man was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor's office and an investigation has been launched.
