Experts examined the Luxembourgish text and gave their opinion, which was discussed for the first time by the parliamentary commission on institutions and constitutional revision on Friday.
The Venice Commission confirmed that the proposed bill conforms to international law, but outlined several points that required improvement. LSAP MP Alex Bodry, the president of the parliamentary commission, affirmed that the parliamentary commission would work on those points.
He explained that the foundation of the text remained unchanged, but that some details required further clarification.
The consensus was that the Venice Commission's report went in the right direction, although not all MPs were 100% in agreement with it, claiming the commission did not always take the Luxembourgish context into consideration.
The information campaign on the reform is scheduled to begin in autumn, at which point the proposed constitutional reform will officially be presented to the general public.
So far, no precise date has been chosen for the referendum on the constitutional reform, but Bodry estimated that it would be likely to happen in the second quarter of 2020.
