According to the general director of the Robert Schuman Hospitals, Dr Claude Schummer, hospitals are returning to a form of normalcy. However, while Covid-19 care units have already disappeared completely, the hospital is still separated into two different sectors, even though they are currently only caring for one Covid-19 patient.
There are still problems regarding staff: Some are considered "vulnerable" and cross-border workers are sometimes subject to different regulations in their home countries, which is why many are still on leave "for family reasons".
The hospital is currently trying to compensate for pandemic-related delays, such as postponed surgeries.
According to Dr Schummer, a non-covid wave will follow the covid wave, as many people waited to go to the hospital because of the pandemic. Some may have waited too long.
Dr Schummer also thinks that a so-called "pandemic hospital" could be a viable option for the future. Potential sites are available, such as Clinique Sainte-Marie in Esch.
He criticised the concept of forced hospitalisations. He stated that only because someone did not respect social distancing measures does not imply that they are infected.
