For the duration of the Autofestival, dealers are offering discounts, free options, financial offers and other enticements until 3 February.

However, the Luxembourg Consumers Union advises potential buyers to remain vigilant, while paying attention to the following aspects:

  • The exact designation of the model to be ordered must appear precisely in the contract, including all the options and the chosen equipment.
  • A precise and firm delivery time must be indicated.
  •  If you trade in your old car, you must ensure that both the price of the recovery and the purchase price of the new car are indicated exactly.

Autofestival: Discover the latest model of car in LuxembourgWhen buying a used car, the ULC recommends the following:

  • Check the condition of the car in order to detect any defect that it could present on the day of the sale.
  • Confirm the exact mileage of the car on the day of the sale which must be included in the sales contract.

Contracts signed at the garage have no right of withdrawal, unlike distance sales. So only sign a purchase order or purchase contract only if you are sure you want the vehicle, because if you then change your mind and want to terminate this contract, the seller can assert their right to damages.

PURCHASES ON FINANCE

Banks are also offering "Autofestival" conditions for loans linked to the purchase of a car. Here too, certain precautions must be taken.

It is advisable to have a clause stipulating that the contract is completed on the condition of obtaining consumer credit in your purchase order or purchase contract. It is only on this condition that you will be sure that you will not be bound by your purchase in the event that you do not obtain the necessary credit.

The ULC also recommends that consumers carry out a detailed analysis of the conditions of a possible loan contract and pay attention to the annual effective annual rate (APR).
