Expansion of tram networkBonnevoie construction site a real headache for motorists

RTL Today
For several weeks the Rangwee, the street that connects the Gluck roundabout and Bonnevoie, has been closed. For residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods, the proposed detour can sometimes feel endless, turning short shopping trips or commutes into a long ordeal.

The tram network requires expansion and is now moving towards Bonnevoie and Cloche d’Or. Three major projects are underway in the area: the Buchler Bridge, the construction of the new N40 parallel to Route de Thionville, and the most problematic of all, the transformation of Rangwee. This important link to Bonnevoie is currently closed to all traffic.

The closure has a significant impact on local traffic. Motorists heading to Bonnevoie from the motorway must take a deviation that is several kilometres long, in traffic that is already slow in rush hour times. The bus, too, is stuck in traffic.

This is inconvenient not only for commuters who travel this route every day, but also – and most importantly – for local residents. A typical 5-to-10-minute shopping trip might easily turn into a 30-minute ordeal.

Rangwee had to be closed because there was no other option for the tram construction site, according to a spokesman for the Bridges and Roads Authority: “People just have to accept it and be patient, the road in question is scheduled to be reopened at the end of the year,” says Ralph Di Marco, who adds that traffic should be flowing more smoothly from September onwards thanks to the opening of the new N40 and the Buchler bridge, which will be completed by this point.
