In a press release, Creos, the national electricity grid operator, reported that a transformer on Rue Principale, not far from the Duerfplaz car park, began to burn early on Tuesday afternoon for reasons that are yet to be determined. For safety reasons, the transformer was disconnected from the network, and firefighters were able to bring the fire quickly under control.
Creos estimates that electricity supply should be restored by 8pm, although this will depend on how smoothly and quickly the repair works proceed at the site.
