Dr Godehard Engels has already travelled to Chișinău to help support refugees on the ground in Moldova. Ukraine’s neighbouring countries, including Hungary and Romania, have all become destinations for mothers and their children fleeing war-torn Ukraine.
There have been over 520,000 refugees already.
For two days, Caritas Luxembourg has now been active in Chișinău, which is located about 400 kilometres from Ukraine’s capital Kyiv. 100 people are already living in a community centre in the Moldovan capital.
Caritas is not the only non-profit organisation helping on the ground. Both Unicef and the Red Cross have also sent people to the region to provide assistance.
