Police are trying to identify the owner of a medal discovered on 20 July 2026 during a search of a hotel room in Mondorf-les-Bains.
The decoration has since been "secured", the Grand Ducal Police said. It carries significant symbolic value: it is the Commander's insignia of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, an honour awarded to people who have rendered distinguished service to the community.
Police believe the medal may have been stolen, although the theft may not yet have been reported.
