
After some rides, the hundred participants ate together. Gratitude was felt everywhere, and happy faces were seen on everyone who was glad to meet new people or to spend a wholesome day with friends.
Since 1996, ‘Stëmm vun der Strooss’ has facilitated an outing to the Schueberfouer, which is always a special day for people who are not so well off.
Jérôme Bigar, a stallman at the fair, always looks forward to showing some solidarity by providing food. He reflects that we often forget about those who are less well off, that have no roof over their heads or live on the streets.
Especially in warmer months homeless people struggle with the heat, something the charity tries to help with.
Alexandra Oxacelay, director of the organisation, explains that apart from distributing water, not much can be done. The charity advises against drinking alcohol outdoors, and gives regular reminders to stay hydrated and look out for one another.
