The event was co-organised by the Centre for Political Education and the Children’s Office from Wiltz. About 80 children aged eight to twelve participated in the conference to talk about democracy and children’s rights.
During the conference, children were able to discuss their ideas and opinions. Many expressed a hope to be heard more, to be taken seriously, and to have a say in life. Separated into small groups, they were able to speak about a variety of topics and had adults there to listen to them.
Marc Schoentgen, director of the Centre for Political Education, underlined the importance of teaching children about politics early on. The first ChiCo edition took place in 2019, and after a pandemic-related hiatus, organisers now hope to make it an annual event.
