According to the Ministry of Health, 777 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Luxembourg from 22-28 August.

Last week saw a slight increase in the number of PCR tests performed, rising from 4,710 to 4,894. The number of positive cases also increased from 751 the previous week, to 777. 9 people had positive results from antigen tests.

Two more Covid-related deaths were recorded from 22 to 28 August. The average age of the deceased patients was 86 years old.

However, the number of active infections dropped from 21 August to 28 August - 1,869 down from 1,979. 283,668 people are now considered to have recovered from the virus. The average age among new cases is 42.7 years.

The situation remains stable in Luxembourg’s hospitals, with eight new admissions on Covid wards, compared to 9 the previous week. One person is currently in intensive care. On average, patients are aged around 64.

The seven-day incidence rate has risen from 116 to 120 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. The majority of cases were traced to trips abroad (33%), while 23% of people contracted the virus from family, and 6% fell ill due to work. 30% of cases could not be sufficiently traced, according to contact tracing services.

20 people received a first dose of the vaccine in the past week, while 31 people received their second dose. 151 people received a booster jab and 1,399 people had their second booster administered ahead of the autumn. In total, 1,290,067 doses have been administered in Luxembourg since the vaccine rollout began. 474,526 residents are now considered to be fully vaccinated, corresponding to around 79% of the population aged 5 and over.
