Opposition parties reactCriticism of PM's New Year's Day interview with RTL

RTL Today
Vague ideas, no concept and a friendly and self-satisfied prime minister: Those are just some of the criticisms expressed by the leaders of the opposition after Xavier Bettel's RTL interview.

The right-wing Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) has singled out and criticised one of the PM's perceived visions for the future: Unbridled growth.

The Left has criticised selective contributions in kind. While they generally support a universal welfare state in which stronger shoulders take on more of the burden, they believe that the government needs to do more to make sure that people aren't left out or patronised by the state.

The Christian Social People's Party criticise the government's plan of making it easier for working parents to wear both hats. The CSV doesn't appreciate these family policies, as they believe that parents have a right to chose between being a working parent and being a stay-at-home parent. The induction of a new tax bracket would further undermine that choice, according to the CSV.

The Pirate Party was the only opposition party to support the government's programme, essentially giving the coalition an early vote of confidence.

All four opposition parties pointed out that they value constructive opposition politics and would support the government wherever possible.
