Hosting a small press conference on Thursday morning, CSV party president Frank Engel maintained it is not the fault of the CSV that there will be no new constitution. The party is adamant it will not be the scapegoat for the proposed reform not amounting to anything.

The three coalition parties and the CSV concluded that whilst they agreed on many points, they would not achieve consensus on a number of other points. Engel added that even within the coalition, the parties did not always agree on individual aspects.

He maintained that whilst the CSV did want a complete update of the constitution, the substantial revisions to the current constitution are necessary. The CSV's preference would have been to make propositions and then hold a consultative referendum, which will not be happening. The party will not block any proceedings but will instead collaborate with the government. Again, the party president stressed the situation does not result from any position held by the CSV.
