The statement urges the government to prolong the 7.5-cent-discount, warning that people might otherwise choose to drive to Longwy to fill up their tanks. In France, the fuel discount was recently increased from 15 to 30 cents per litre and will remain in place until the end of the year.

Although the Greens carried the motion of the discount in their function as a coalition member, the party does not believe that the measure is fair. Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch therefore proposed to introduce so-called ‘energy checks’ based on people’s revenues. Both the Left and the Pirate Party have also criticised the fuel discount in similar manner.

The CSV and the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) support the discount.
