The Knuedler car park is set to be enlarged by the end of 2021, with 250 additional spaces. The work has been made more complex because archaeological excavations undertaken by the National Centre for Archaeological Research (CNRA) revealed parts of the old church linked to the Convent of the Cordeliers.
An umbrella vault will be constructed to protect the remains of the church. The beams to connect this vault with the vertical pillars have now been put in place.
The third phase of the project will be launched with the terracing of the five underground levels. This phase, the excavation of 27,000 cubic metres of stone, is planned to be completed in spring 2020. Once the levels have exceeded a depth of 20 metres, the construction of the floors can begin.
The existing car park will be renovated at the same time to include wider space in order to comply with the current trends of larger cars.
The project is planned to finish by the end of 2021, with an overall budget of more than 37 million euros.
