RTL Today
A simple vehicle check resulted in the successful capture of a mugger on Wednesday in Echternach.

The suspect had stolen a handbag from a car parked at Echternach lake at around 10pm on Wednesday night. The victim promptly filed a police report.

Shortly afterwards, a police patrol stopped a vehicle on Rue de Pont, as the car's headlights were not functioning. The car smelled strongly of marijuana, leading to a positive drug test on behalf of the driver. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle, and in the process discovered the stolen handbag.

A further search of the three occupants revealed two stolen bank cards, which the suspects had already carried out transactions with.

The stolen cash and the contents of the handbag were returned to their respective owners. The car was seized by officers and all three occupants were written up. In addition, the driver received a fine for driving under the influence of drugs.
