The main focus of the trial was the main suspect and owner of the house in Wasserbillig. A total of 21 individuals were accused of running a drugs ring in Wasserbillig and in the Central station district in Luxembourg City. The drugs network was uncovered in 2015.
The man owns the house at the centre of the entire drugs affair. In February 2018, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined €10,000. The defendant disagreed with the verdict from the second trial and is now attempting to overturn the ruling by revisiting the case in the Court of Cassation.
This is not the first occasion in the affair to be considered in the high-instance court. In January, the main dealer and house manager reverted to the Court of Cassation. The court ultimately ruled to keep the second verdict.
The defendant's lawyer presented a total of 24 cassation points of law, which were resumed by main judge Jean-Claude Wiwinius.
The most important points were that two important witnesses were not called to testify, and it was wrong to designate the defendant as co-perpetrator. The lawyer also highlighted his client had been charged despite doubt concerning his involvement. A further point deplored the lack of English translation of the enforcement record.
The prosecutor highlighted that the defendant's revision requests could be conceded in Thursday's trial. The verdict will take place on 31 October.
