Around 3.10pm on Saturday, a car rear-ended another vehicle while waiting at a red light on Boulevard Prince Henri. After both drivers and passengers exited their vehicles to inspect the damage, the driver at fault suddenly reversed and attempted to flee the scene.

However, the driver of the damaged car acted quickly and tried to stop the escape by holding onto the fleeing car’s bonnet.

Despite her efforts, the suspect drove several metres with the woman still clinging to the front of the vehicle before she eventually let go, allowing the car to escape. Fortunately, the woman was not injured in the incident.

Although the driver managed to get away, the evidence of his actions remained. A passenger in the impacted car had recorded the entire event on their mobile phone, which helped police to identify the vehicle’s owner quickly.

Further investigation revealed that the suspected driver was already subject to a driving ban. Officers were unable to locate the man at his registered address.

Later that afternoon, an unexpected development occurred when another individual arrived at the police station with the damaged car to report the accident.

Footage from the eyewitness confirmed that this person was not the fleeing driver. On the orders of the public prosecutor, the vehicle was seized and police issued several citations, including one for making a false statement.
