Luxembourg CityEmpty promises have allowed drug crime to expand even further, says Laurent Mosar

RTL Today
On Monday morning, the MP from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) and Luxembourg City alderman sat down for an interview on RTL Radio.

The CSV politician was first asked about his view on Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes’ recent RTL interview, in which she spoke about taxes and trade union demonstrations. Mosar expressed understanding that a Minister cannot be familiar with every single dossier, but showed himself disappointed with Backes’ “lack of ideas”.

He underlined that the country is currently €20 billion in debt, which is a record high. Asked about the government’s unwillingness to adjust tax rates to inflation, Mosar ensured that CSV will continue pressuring elected officials.

Mosar also lamented that the government has yet to diversify Luxembourg’s economy, which he believes to still be overly focused on the financial sector. There are not enough incentives to attract major players from different sectors, explained Mosar. He referred to Knauf, Fage, and Google as seemingly missed opportunities to create new jobs.

When asked about safety in Luxembourg City’s Gare district, the alderman noted that the government keeps making empty promises, which has allowed drug crime to expand even further into the City centre. Even though Minister of Justice Sam Tanson has committed to making adjustments to the legal system, she has yet to present any progress, noted the CSV politician.

Mosar also commented on the fact that Minister for Family Affairs Corinne Cahen from the Democratic Party (DP) recently expressed a desire to eventually run for Mayor of Luxembourg City. The CSV MP finds it shocking that an elected official openly displays having no interest in their position and wanting to leave one and a half years before the next elections.

Mosar noted: “If she is bored at work, she might want to consider reviewing the spread of the coronavirus in senior and care homes, I am sure there are still many open questions.” He ensured that CSV will continue cooperating with DP Mayor Lydie Polfer, who he believes to be very dedicated to her job. Furthermore, CSV will stand behind first alderman Serge Wilmes as their top candidate in the next municipal elections.
