After the death of a child at the capital's Christmas market in November, an expert has been drafted in to help ascertain the exact circumstances of the tragic accident.

A spokesperson from the Luxembourg Judiciary confirmed the appointment of an expert to assist with the investigation on Friday.

The two year old boy died on 24 November after he was struck by pieces of an ice sculpture at the Christmas market on Place Guillaume II.

The length of the investigation is yet to be ascertained according to the spokesperson. Pieces of the ice sculpture were kept in frozen storage after the accident. The investigation was opened for involuntary manslaughter.
