In the near future (a year from today), passengers travelling in second class will travel for free. However, for those who holding an M-Pass and paying the first class supplement, travel will become more expensive. The CFL and Ministry of Mobility confirmed this following a number of enquiries.
Until present, the cost of an M-Pass depended on your employer. Civil servants, for example, paid €150 for their M-Pass. The first class supplement for a year is €220, which comes to an annual total of €370 to travel in first class compartments.
As public transport will be free in a year's time, the M-Pass will become redundant and consequently be scrapped. For those then hoping to travel first class, it will cost €660 per year. Those who previously benefited from a reduced first class travel pas with an M-Pass will have to pay an additional €290 if they want to continue travelling in first class compartments.
