Older residents of the southern city certainly still have fond memories of summer days spent next to the open-air pool. After the location had slowly begun deteriorating at the beginning of the 1990s, the site was eventually closed. Ever since, a potential reopening has been on the table more than once, and on Friday, a definite proposal was finally accepted.
The name "Era" was given to the pool due to its location between Esch-sur-Alzette, Russange, and Audun-le-Tiche. Given that parts of the land are on French territory, the project is a joint effort between Luxembourg and its neighbour. The goal is to have a valid concept for the site on the table by 2023.
Esch-sur-Alzette Mayor Georges Mischo emphasised that money should not stand in the way of success.
