Francine Closener and Dan Biancalana are candidates to take over the LSAP presidency. This was announced by the MPs from central and southern Luxembourg via their social media profiles on Saturday afternoon.

Dan Biancalana, who also serves as Mayor of Dudelange, has temporarily taken over the party leadership since Yves Cruchten became head of the LSAP’s parliamentary group, succeeding Georges Engel who replaced Dan Kersch as Minister of Labour and Sport.

The party also published the candidacies for the National Congress on 5 March on its website. There will be no other candidates for the leadership of the LSAP, which will be led by two co-presidents for the first time, following a recent amendment of the party statutes.

The announcements on Saturday confirmed previous speculation about a Closener-Biancalana co-presidency.

Tom Jungen and Christine Schweich will run for re-election as general secretary and treasurer respectively while Tina Koch will run for the position of vice president.
