On Tuesday evening, police received reports of a scam in Beggen. Unknown individuals posed as bank employees and scammed their victim out of large sums of cash.
The fraudsters contacted their victim, a Beggen resident, by phone, and informed her a courier would come to her home to collect her bank cards in order to check and replace them. After she had her cards blocked, she realised a number of transactions and cash withdrawals had taken place without her knowledge.
The subsequent investigation revealed some of the money had been transferred to another bank account. This sum was recovered by the bank on Wednesday. The account owner's home was searched by the authorities, yielding electronic devices and cash.
The public prosecutor's office ordered the arrest of the perpetrator. The investigation is ongoing.
