The Grand Ducale Police are offering a very particular service on Sunday: free coding of your bicycle, scooters, skateboard or any other soft forms of transportation.
This coding allows the police to register your item in a database, making it easier to be tracked when stolen, and even scare off potential thieves in the first place.
A number is engraved in the frame of the bicycle. Although this will be permanent, it does not affect the frame's strength or stability.
Coding is not possible for carbon materials or metal frames with either very thin walls or chrome parts.
To be eligible for a code, however, the owner must live in Luxembourg.
Between 10am and 6pm, families can cycle and walk on the 17,3km stretch between Mamer and Mersch and the police will be available to assist in the tagging system.

It is also useful to remember that the Police are offering a holiday patrol service, whereby extra rounds are being made to areas where residents have alerted the authorities of their planned vacation.
Many people are often concerned that leaving their homes for two weeks or longer could make their houses vulnerable to break-ins and burglaries. Some ask neighbours to go in on occasion and open the shutters to make the home appear as if it is still in use.
For that extra step of reassurance, the police have reminded followers on their social media channels of their 'Départ en vacances' ('Going on holiday') service.
