According to witnesses at the scene, a car was chased by police through several streets of Esch on Tuesday evening. The police later reported that officers had attempted to pull the vehicle over because of a non-compliant number plate.
When confronted by the police, the driver of the car tried to escape. After a dangerous chase with the police through Esch, towards the A13, and then back into Esch, the fugitive finally lost control of his vehicle and ran into two street lights.
The police arrested the driver and his passenger. They found drugs, a firearm, a knife, and a large amount of cash in the car.
Shortly after the accident, the car caught fire. However, the police officers were able to control the fire with fire extinguishers.
The two individuals were arrested and are to be presented to an examining magistrate on Wednesday.
