Diekirch breweryFuture disputes will hopefully be settled outside of court, says Wim Gallet

RTL Today
On Thursday morning, the director of the Diekirch brewery spoke to our colleagues at RTL Radio.

Gallet was first asked about the ruling that cafés will not have to pay the full rent for periods of lockdown and Covid restrictions. He responded that he sees the situation rather balanced, given that there have been rulings in favour of both landlords and of renters.

At the same time, Gallet expressed his surprise over the recent decision concerning the Diekirch brewery, stating that although he supports the idea of solidarity, he believes the government aids that cafés received were not taken into consideration.

The Diekirch brewery has not yet decided wether to appeal the decision. The institution itself is an intermediary, meaning they rent themselves and then offer the spaces to third parties. Gallet concluded: "If we ask €1,000 rent, that means we also pay those €1,000 ourselves." At the same time, he admitted that there were cases where the brewery asked higher rents, a practice which they no longer do.

Gallet expressed his hopes that future disputes can be settled outside of court, given that it is a strenuous process for all parties involved.
