MP Marc Baum from the Left Party (Déi Lénk) is one of the people concerned about this situation and has recently brought up the issue in a parliamentary question to the Ministers of Finance and Culture, Pierre Gramegna and Sam Tanson.

"The castle is unoccupied, and its condition is deteriorating considerably (...) The fear of irreversible damage is real" wrote the MP, who stressed the importance of the castle for the heritage of the municipality of Sanem.

As the castle is the property of the Luxembourg State, Baum asked what steps would be taken to remedy the situation. The Ministers' reply to Baum's question, however, remained rather ambiguous.

Will the castle be restored? Will it be sold? Reassigned? All of these options have been considered but no "final conclusion has been reached at this stage", Gramegna and Tanson stated. The Ministers maintain that there have been contacts with the municipality of Sanem "in the past" and that it is planned to "renew these contacts in the context of ongoing discussions".

The reply also indicates that the municipality has benefited from a grant of €63,847 in 2016 in order to restore "historic walls in the castle garden", and that a new grant of €53,845 was approved in 2020 in order to restore and conserve these same walls.

What is known, however, is that the castle will not be sold for the time being and that a use for administrative and cultural purposes is in the works. This should allow "public access to these historic sites" according to the two Ministers, who assure that "temporary use of certain premises remains possible under certain conditions while awaiting the start of the work".

The extent and schedule of these works remain unknown.
