Firefighters were present at the scene, but the gas supply was simply cut off at source and the fire abated.
It is currently not known what factors caused the gas pipeline to burn.
It is possible that the incident occurred due to a frozen water pipe being defrosted.
The contractor was also on site, because some of the remaining structures still needed to be torn down.
