The disruption began on Tuesday morning and affected a number of Google's cloud-based services. Google reported "increased errors and temporary network outages in the europe-west2 region", whose servers are based in the UK capital. Digital payments were hit especially hard, including at online banks such as Revolut.

In Luxembourg, customers had payment difficulties on Tuesday. Reports covered not only online banking but also other Google-hosted services, websites, and enterprise software.

Google later confirmed that a power outage at its London cloud data centre had caused the disruption, and said it hoped to restore all services shortly.

Revolut also issued a statement on Tuesday, assuring customers that their data and funds remained secure despite the outage.

[Ed. note: in a first edition of this article, we mentioned ING was also affected by the outage. However, they have stated that they were not affected.]
