On Tuesday, the environment, energy and housing ministers presented a joint subsidy programme, known as “Klimabonus”, to deal with climate change and to accelerate the ecological, energy and social transition of the Grand Duchy.
A new website was also unveiled to provide more information, also offering a simulator for state subsidies.
The Klimabonus programme is divided into five categories: Sustainable mobility, renewable energies, protection of biodiversity, sustainable housing and targeted aid for lower-income households.
The programme simplifies access to state aid, such as for ecological insultation of a home. It also aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, by replacing old boilers with a heat pump, a wood-fired boiler or electronic heater.
With regard to increased aid, energy minister Claude Turmes specified: “In the context of the current energy crisis, now is the time to propose solutions that allow us to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. More than ever, the technical solutions to solve the challenges of the energy transition exist, and with state aid, they are becoming even more accessible.”
Depending on the beneficiary’s income, the Ministry may provide additional aid to avoid the risk of energy poverty.
Two other measures support owner households in the ecological transition, namely the introduction of an interest subsidy for climate loans and the introduction of a mandatory fund for condominiums. “Climate policy is a social policy”, housing minister Henri Kox underlined.
The detailed provisions of the new Klimabonus financial aid scheme, with a simulator of the aid amounts will be available on www.klimabonus.lu. The financial aid application forms will be available on www.guichet.lu.
