Metsola, Costa, and RutteGrand Duke Guillaume to meet EU and NATO leaders in Brussels

Grand Duke Guillaume is visiting EU institutions and NATO in Brussels, where he is meeting key European leaders to discuss current political and security issues.

According to a press release from the Grand Ducal Court, Grand Duke Guillaume is travelling to Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday for an official visit following his accession to the throne. On the first day of the trip, the Grand Duke, accompanied by Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel, is scheduled to visit two European Union institutions.

At 2.30pm, he will meet Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, followed at 6pm by a meeting with António Costa, President of the European Council. According to the press release, discussions at both meetings will focus primarily on current European issues.

A meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, originally scheduled for 11am on Tuesday, had to be cancelled due to scheduling constraint but is expected to take place at a later date.

Between the meetings with Metsola and Costa, the Grand Duke will meet staff from Luxembourg’s permanent representation and Luxembourg nationals working within the EU institutions. At 3.30pm, he is due to address them at the premises of the permanent representation.

On Wednesday morning, Grand Duke Guillaume and Bettel will meet Mark Rutte, Secretary General of NATO. According to the press release, discussions are expected to focus primarily on issues of international security.
