
"Things were a little bumpy on the construction sites at the beginning. We didn't have a lot of time to prepare ourselves," says Jean-Marc Kieffer, President of the Group of Entrepreneurs, regarding the sudden continuation of construction two weeks ago amid the ongoing health crisis.
Masks are being worn, hands disinfected and workers on the sites are respecting the rules regarding social distancing. But the Group of Entrepreneurs would like to implement more testing in the sector.
The economic impact of the virus on the construction sector is tremendous, concludes Kieffer. Profit margins were already small before the health crisis, but numbers are now in the red, in part due to tough and sometimes unfair foreign competition.
Additional costs due to the safety measures may arise in the future, which will have to be transferred to the client.
