Divided opinionsHas social dialogue during the crisis been a success or not?

RTL Today
How do you prevent a social crisis after a sanitary one? And has the social dialogue been successful during the pandemic?

Discussions on the topic were held in the chamber of deputies on Tuesday. While the opposition complained over a lack of communication from the government, the respective ministers emphasised that cooperation with social partners had been efficient and unanimous.

CSV deputy Marc Spautz underlined that one could not wait for the pending implications of the crisis to hit the country and that solutions needed to found now. Moreover, regulations formulated in recent years would need to be revised, which would best be done in presence of all three concerned fractions.

Déi Lénk have had similar complaints when it comes to social dialogue since the beginning of the crisis. Deputy Marc Baum explained: "Unions have been left out of the decision process throughout the lockdown. They have occasionally been informed about progress being made, sometimes even after the press, but never had a real say in any matter."

Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy Dan Kersch had little understanding for these accusations: "We have made significant adaptations since the beginning of the outbreak, which were only made possible by the numerous discussions the government had held with social partners during the state of crisis." Kersch further emphasised that talks during that time period had even been more upfront and constructive than ever before. Government, employers, and unions will meet at the beginning of July for a tripartite.
