Alzingen bypassHesperange mayor: Time to make a decision on bypass

RTL Today
The Alzingen bypass has been discussed for almost 15 years now and the government as well as the municipality of Hesperange agree that it is needed to reduce traffic through the municipality.

The only issue that has so far stood in the way of launching the project is environmental regulations.

Knowing this, Hesperange mayor Marc Lies is nonetheless convinced that the project needs to move forward, especially since the Ban de Gasperich area is experiencing a constant influx of people, buildings, and traffic.

Two bypass options are currently on the table. While the "module nord" and the "module central" have already successfully passed through parliament, module 3 (aka the actual bypass) still needs to be approved.

Mayor Lies explained the prospective route of the new bypass: "The bypass will pass through Rue des Scillas and Rue des Joncs in Howald, between the Quick fast food restaurant and the Cactus supermarket. A new junction will be built there. From there, the bypass will lead along the A3 motorway and take a left turn through the Réiserbann area to the Alzingen hills."

The prospective bypass will lead through a protected Natura2000 zone, which means that studies will need to be carried out. Another zone of national importance, the so-called ''Fennerholz'' zone, is also in that area.

There is another option on the table, but it will be no less complicated for reasons which are not immediately clear at the time of writing.

Before a decision of any kind can be taken, the residents of Hesperange will need to be consulted on the project. Summing the situation up, mayor Lies said "Time is running out and we are scared that it could all end in chaos if we don't act soon."
