Most of us were happily cosy at home, but viticulturists were hard at work in the early hours of Tuesday.

Over 20 people working at the vineyard spent a good hour picking frozen grapes to eventually press and turn into ice wine.

In order to make ice wine, grapes must be picked at a minimum temperature of -7 degrees Celsius at night. The minimum must weight for Luxembourgish ice wine is 120 Oechsle.

As for the type of grape, there is no specific grape that ice wine must be made out of. The optimal harvest for ice wine is the Riesling grape, as the grapes become ripe at a relatively late time point and are frozen by the time they are pressed.

Those hoping to purchase this batch of ice wine will have to wait until August 2019.
