After dramatic floodsItalians in Luxembourg appeal for donations to rebuild village of Cantiano

RTL Today
Floods on 15 and 16 September had dramatic consequences for the local population.

When major floods struck central Italy in September, including the village of Cantiano, many Italians living in Luxembourg were personally affected. They still have family and friends living there, or were even born and raised in the village.

A number of people lost their lives in the natural disaster. Fortunately, no one in Cantiano was badly injured, but the material damage left behind by the masses of water is still significant today.

Among the Italians in Luxembourg are Simonetta Mosconi and the Bernardini brothers. They remember the horror when they first were sent photos of the accident.

Even today, the pictures of the broken roads and buildings, the mud and the despair of the people of Cantiano bring up a lot of emotions. They are in constant contact with family and friends of the Italian community. While the main debris has been cleaned up, only four of the 50 shops in the centre have been able to reopen.

Together with friends here in Luxembourg, the Bernardini family created a Facebook group and made an appeal for donations. The money collected will then be transferred to the municipality of Cantiano to help the citizens there. The Mosconi family is also helping and organising a meal for a good cause in their restaurant to help the community rebuild.
