First visit to LuxembourgJean Asselborn welcomes German counterpart Annalena Baerbock in Schengen

RTL Today
On Saturday, Germany's Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock met with Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn in Schengen, the symbolic location that stands for free movement between 26 European countries.

It was the first time that Minister Baerbock travelled to the Grand Duchy. Both politicians discussed a number of foreign affairs issues, including the possible EU memberships of North Macedonia and Albania. Since Bulgaria abandoned its opposition to the EU admission of both countries, it now seems as though negotiations are able to begin.

During a subsequent press briefing, both politicians condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and expressed their support for the people living in the war-torn country.

Minister Baerbock also addressed the energy crisis and said that Germany will maintain its position on nuclear phaseout.

Following Minister Baerbock’s visit to the Grand Duchy, Minster Asselborn travelled to the German state of Saarland, where both politicians followed the encounter between Finnland and Germany at the 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship during a public viewing event.
