On Wednesday, the Green Party (Déi Gréng) announced their own proposals. In particular, they are calling for staggered financial aid for households. The Green Party also demands that this measure should be introduced immediately, rather than after the tripartite meeting.
The Democratic Party (DP) and the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) do not want to express their respective positions at this time. However, both parliamentary groups insist that they, too, wish to assist households.
Yves Cruchten, president of the LSAP Parliamentary Group, says that any good idea is welcome. However, Cruchten believes that introducing measures ahead of time would be “a disservice to the tripartite.” The LSAP MP argues that the parties should not “outbid each other” at this time. According to Cruchten, the tripartite will “find the best solutions for the country,” and in order to do so, the various actors “must be allowed to work in peace”.
The DP follows the same line of reasoning. According to Gilles Baum, President of the DP Parliamentary Group, while the Green Party making demands now is “not an issue,” the parties should not try to “outbid each other” at this time. Baum argues that throwing isolated ideas into the room “every quarter of an hour” is not the best strategy. According to the MP, “we should wait and negotiate a global package during the tripartite.”
Baum noted that pinpointing exact quantities is also difficult at this time, and that enacting such measures immediately is “unrealistic.”
