As strikes loom in the Spanish air travel sector, Luxair has assured passengers that the latest information suggests the vast majority of flights will operate as scheduled.
Approximately 12,000 passengers are set to depart from Findel Airport during the first weekend of the Easter holidays. However, ground staff in Spain have announced plans to strike, with several Spanish trade unions calling for industrial action between 27 March and 6 April.
In response, Luxair has acknowledged that disruptions to air traffic cannot be ruled out starting Friday, 27 March. The German Foreign Office has also indicated that delays or cancellations are possible.
On Thursday, Luxair said it was closely monitoring the situation in Luxembourg and would take the necessary steps to avoid disruptions wherever possible. Based on current plans, the airline does not expect flights to Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), and Tenerife to be cancelled, though delays remain possible. Other Luxair destinations in Spain are not expected to be affected.
In an interview with RTL, Luxair’s commercial director, Thomas Fischer, advised passengers to allow sufficient time and arrive at the airport early.
According to Fischer, Luxair will contact affected passengers immediately in the event of disruptions. Travellers departing on return flights from Spanish airports impacted by the strikes are advised to arrive at least three hours before departure, as longer waiting times are expected.
When asked about the possibility of cancellations, Fischer reassured passengers that current plans do not indicate such an outcome. However, he added that even if a flight were to be cancelled, Luxair would make every effort to ensure passengers reach their destination as quickly as possible.
Fischer explained that the airline has assembled a team of more than 12 people tasked with mitigating potential disruptions to the greatest extent possible.
