Boeing and Luxair announced on Tuesday that two purchase options have been converted into firm orders. The national airline has now firmly placed an order for two Boeing 737-10 aircraft. For CEO Gilles Feith, this marks a further milestone in the long-term strategy for the Luxair fleet. The two 737-10s will bring the added capacity, efficiency and flexibility needed to meet future demand. Luxair has also secured options with Boeing for two additional 737-10s.
Feith added that the new aircraft will consume around 20% less fuel and produce correspondingly lower emissions. On average, each new generation of the 737 can save up to 3,630 tonnes of CO2 per year. Following Luxair's order for two Boeing 737-10s in 2024, the airline has now exercised two additional options, converting them into firm orders. Once these have been delivered, the national airline will operate a fleet of eight Boeing 737-8s and four Boeing 737-10s.
Each of the new jets will offer 213 seats, with 76 centimetres of legroom between rows. Passengers can look forward to USB-C charging at every seat and wireless in-flight entertainment. The aircraft’s CFM LEAP-1B engines are also expected to noticeably reduce cabin noise.
The airline is further strengthening its fleet with the purchase of three additional Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, raising the total number of firm E2 orders to nine. Luxair has also secured another option for a future purchase. Four of the six previously ordered Embraer E195-E2s are already in service.
The first E190-E2 is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2028. With 100 seats, this aircraft will primarily serve routes popular with business travellers. According to the airline, the expanded fleet will allow for greater flexibility, improved alignment with passenger demand on different routes, and higher operational efficiency. The new Embraers will also feature lower fuel consumption, quieter operation, and reduced emissions. Passengers can expect more legroom, USB charging at every seat, and wireless in-flight entertainment.
