A group of Luxembourg Guides and Scouts (LGS) has spent the past two weeks in Senegal working with local partners on a series of renovation projects as part of a long-standing exchange between the two countries.

These focused primarily on renovating and repainting a school, as well as refurbishing a playground and football pitch. Neither the heat nor flooding, power cuts, or water shortages dampened the group's determination, according to the LGS. Working closely together, the participants were able to achieve results they say they can be proud of, the LGS stated.

The guides and scouts involved in the project thanked all those who supported them, particularly through financial donations, which will also help cover the remaining work.

The two weeks also helped strengthen the long-standing cultural exchange between the LGS and their partners in Senegal.

Last Thursday, the group welcomed Luxembourg's ambassador to Senegal, showing her the results of their work at the Educational Resources and Child Development Centre (CREPE) in Mboro as well as their campsite.

The LGS first travelled to Senegal in 1988, a relationship that later led to the creation of the development NGO Guiden a Scouten fir eng Welt – Guides and Scouts for One World.

Those involved said they were proud to have taken part in the project and grateful to everyone who supported it, particularly the Guides and Scouts federation, the NGO, and their Senegalese partners, Les jeunes éclaireurs et éclaireuses du Sénégal – the Young Scouts of Senegal.

With plenty of memories, new friendships, and a strong sense of achievement, the Luxembourg group will begin its journey home on Monday after what participants described as two highly rewarding weeks.
