Over the last two days more attention has been drawn to the precarious situation in which many businesses based in the Gare district now find themselves.
Minister François Bausch said in order to obtain financial compensation from Luxtram, traders have to file an application, which will be examined as quickly as possible by the tram operator.
Bausch said compensation had always been on the table for the struggling businesses, but the process was complicated and the amount of compensation requested would not always be feasible.
To date, five requests for financial compensation have been lodged with the tram operator. The Minister of Public Works also said that these major projects were necessary, even if the infrastructure for the tram had not been built. In some places, the buried pipes were damaged and had to be replaced.
Luxtram's director André Von der Marck confirmed the building site for the new conduits will be completed next week on Avenue de la Liberté.
The building site for the extension of the tram network towards the Gare is on schedule and expected to be completed in a year, according to Bausch.
