Judges overseeing the trial at Diekirch court agreed with the prosecutor's recommendation of a life sentence in the first instance.
The incident took place on 2 January 2019, following an argument between the accused and his ex-partner. His own son was killed in the attack, while the other four victims were critically injured. Two sustained injuries which have left them on disability benefits.
