At 12.50am, the police inspected a car that had stopped on the hard shoulder at the Croix de Gasperich. It turned out that, not only had the driver had too much to drink, but was also in possession of a small amount of drugs. Needless to say, his driving licence was withdrawn.
Around 1.20am in Windhof, officers noticed that a driver and passenger getting into a car seemed inebriated. When an alcohol test confirmed these suspicions, the driver was relieved of his licence.
A zigzagging car was then stopped around 2am in Rodange, and following an assessment, the driver had to carry on with his journey sans car.
Just before 4am, police intercepted a speeding car at Boulevard Robert Schuman in Luxembourg City, and found another drunk driver who then had to surrender his licence.
At around the same time another motorist's somewhat erratic driving style attracted attention in Niederanven. The cause in this case was drugs, and the driver was charged accordingly.
A further drunken driver who had hit a car in Bertrange had to part with his licence at approx 5am.
One final incident occurred at around 3.50am in Esch. A car winding across lanes repeatedly attracted attention: however while it initially appeared that a woman had been driving, once officers drew up to the vehicle to carry out the inspection, a man had taken her place at the wheel.
As it turned out, this made little difference considering his alcohol level was equally over the legal limit.
Seeing as the woman's alcohol level was not only significantly higher, but as she also started acting up, she was taken on a trip to the station. Both individuals were charged.
