War in UkraineMany politicians vacate their posts on Russian boards, but not all

RTL Today
Former LSAP Minister Jeannot Krecké will continue to serve as president of the EWUB Board of Directors. There was no reaction from his party colleague Etienne Schneider.

Abroad, former politicians who are now on the board of directors of Russian companies are vacating their posts. For example, the former Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern, the ex-Prime Minister of France François Fillon, and former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

The East-West-United Bank in Luxembourg, however, announced on Friday evening that the former LSAP minister Jeannot Krecké will remain president of the board of directors. In a report, the bank specified that it was an independent Luxembourgish bank and that it is neither part of the Russian state nor of a Russian banking group. The only shareholder is Sistema Financial Corporation, one of the most important private shareholders in Russia.

The bank emphasises that none of its direct or indirect shareholders is subject to international sanctions.

Besides Jeannot Krecké, former LSAP minister Etienne Schneider is also a member of a Russian board of directors - that of Sistema. So far Schneider has not responded to press enquiries. However, the Young Socialists are demanding that all socialists give up their posts on the board of directors of a Russian company. In the press, the leader of the parliamentary group, Yves Cruchten, has so far only said that he finds the situation ‘unfortunate’.
